THE O'REILLY'S OCEAN VILLAGE TROPHY

The O'Reilly's Ocean Village Trophy at Montenmedio on Sunday 24th August was part of our August Bank holiday package to Chiclana and the first qualifying event for the “player of the year” competition in our 2008/09 season. Winning here and making a fast start to the new campaign was Tim Rickson, followed by Kevin Valentine and Joe Sanchez who were second and third respectively. With a fine round of 74, Tim won the sponsor's crystal trophy as well as a weekend for two at the 5-star La Cala Resort, with Kevin and Joe receiving vouchers to spend in the pro shop. John Caruana won the senior division and the top team prize with his playing partner Douglas Casciaro. The “star quality” player was Les Housely and the other prize winners on the day were John McHale, Josh Hunter and Jeff Richardson. 

There were a few players who made a good start in the new rankings for 2008/09 but there is a long way to go and a few competitions to play until 31st July 2009!

THE BARCLAYS WEALTH TROPHY

We welcomed over 60 golfers to our latest tournament at San Roque on Sunday 14th September, where the sponsors were Barclays Wealth. Winning the crystal trophy and a weekend for two at the 5-star La Cala resort was Simon Young, closely followed by Nicky Sanchez and George Desoisa who were second and third respectively. It was a good day all round for Simon, as with his father Cambell he also won the “top team” award and secured the prize for the best score on the par 3’s. Nicky and George received vouchers to exchange in the pro shop for their top three finishes. Top senior was Bill Curbishley and one of our newer members, Sally Rickson, also completed a good day by winning the ladies section, as well as the “star quality” trophy. Other prize winners were Gary Pigot, John Caruana and Peter Rees.

After two events there are a few familiar names already appearing in the “player of the year” rankings all hoping to secure their invitation to our prestigious Masters competition at Valderrama in late summer 2009.

Remember you have to play in a minimum of five qualifying competitions, so see you at Montenmedio on the 12th October for the SG Hambros trophy!
