Description
Located in Alhaurin el Grande just behind the Mijas mountain range, the course blends in with its rugged surroundings. It is an ambitious club and boasts of three courses, 27 holes of which were designed by the legendary Seve Ballesteros. There is a full length 18 hole course, a short 18 hole course for juniors and a further 9 hole par 3 course. Players of all levels can enjoy the main course and some holes have up to six different tee positions. It is a good test for even the most accomplished golfer and wise to make use of your long irons rather than your driver on many holes. It is a relatively new complex and first opened in 1994 and is always looking for ways of developing.

The course itself is attractive with the well-kept green fairways set against the mountainous backdrop and natural vegetation. The main characteristic is a hilly design adapted to the surroundings with tight fairways all of varying degrees of difficulty, fast greens, lakes and ample bunkers.

The views are spectacular where the Mediterranean and Africa can be seen from the south and the mountains from the north. Our advice is to take advantage of the buggies normally included with the green fee, as walking across the hilly terrain will spoil your day and be very exhausting.

A new clubhouse has been built overlooking the first and eighteenth holes and there is also the hotel and equestrian centre alongside. Golf at Alhaurin is the perfect retreat for those looking for peace and tranquillity with clear mountain air. You can get all this whilst being only 20 minutes away from the coast. Alhaurin are very strict about booking tee times and specify this must be done by fax giving names and handicaps of players. You should ensure you let Med Golf do this prior to setting off to avoid disappointment. During the periods October, November, February, March and April between the hours of 8am to 10am, there is a maximum handicap of 24 for gentlemen and 30 for ladies and proof of handicap is required.

On arrival there is ample parking and the hotel facilities are next door. There is a driving range, pro-shop and tuition can be arranged on a group or individual basis. The clubhouse has all the modern facilities with changing rooms, restaurant, bar and café area to relax after your round.

Alhaurin is certainly an experience and very interesting to play. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
