If you are an insomniac then La Dama de Noche is a golfing paradise just for you. This is the first course
in Spain to stay open 24 hours a day and therefore you can play through the night if that is what makes you happy!
Designed by Enrique Canales, the course was opened in 1991 and takes its name from the flowering shrub whose
nighttime fragrance is said to keep mosquitoes away.
This is a nine hole course that can be played as a full eighteen and the big innovation here is the lighting
system that enables you to play in darkness and this is strategically placed so as not to cast shadows. It is
daylight quality and gives maximum visibility therefore making it easy to find your ball. If you want to play
nighttime then this must be pre-booked and groups must consist of a minimum of players, and this is
presently fifteen.
The course itself does not have any rough to worry about but merely a river and two lakes that effect play on
nearly every hole. It is a relatively short course by modern standards and play seems to keep at a steady pace here.
It is an interesting test for golfers of all standards.
In June 2003, David Steele, one of Med Golf's most successful members in Spain, attempted the world record for the
number of holes played in 24 hours at La Dama de Noche and sadly, after a tremendous effort, narrowly failed in his
bid by just a few holes. However, through sponsorship and the support of many, a tremendous sum was raised for
cancer research. Well done David.
La Dama de Noche is near Porto Banus at the gateway to Marbella's famous golf valley and there are good views of
La Concha, which is Marbella's emblematic mountain that stands behind the town. It is a very interesting course to
play and you should let
Med Golf book a tee time for you to say you have
played Spain's only floodlit course.
On arrival there is ample parking and a pro shop where you pay your green fee. When you have finished your round
you can enjoy a drink and a meal at the clubhouse where you will find the staff extremely helpful.
Well worth a visit for all you insomniacs or you just want to tell your friends you have played under floodlights.
