Description
Estepona is probably one of the friendliest courses for visiting golfers on the Costa del Sol. Privately owned and run by Rory Leader you are always assured of a warm welcome, particularly as Andy Hunter, the Med Golf Group Managing Director, is Captain of the club. If he is around when you are playing make yourself known and perhaps he may buy you a drink!

The course was originally designed by Jose Louis Lopez and first opened in 1989. Considerable improvements have been made to the course and amenities over the years, which has made Estepona one of the most popular courses along the coast. The design uses the natural landscape set against the Sierra Bermeja mountains and there are spectacular sea views from most parts of the course. When you drive to the clubhouse you will see the lovely par 3 fifth to your left and the driveable par 4 tenth to your right with the natural water hazards.

You cannot fail to enjoy your golf in this beautiful setting and the course is a challenge but fair to all standards. The fairways can be wide in places and if you drive well you are setting yourself up to hit the greens. The course is always in excellent condition and the large greens are of high quality and considered some of the best on the Costa del Sol. Another feature is the abundance of palms and wild olive trees that are spread over the course making it all so picturesque.

The course consists of a very good balance of holes of varying distances with the par 5's being reachable in two for the longer hitters. The par 3's are particularly good and the previously mentioned fifth is a delight in contrast to the very difficult fourteenth. The par 5 third is aptly nicknamed the "ski run" and is all downhill from the tee. On a dry, calm day your drive will go for miles! The par 4 tenth will also tempt the those braver souls but beware the water waiting for anything wayward.

There is ample parking and an excellent clubhouse with bar and restaurant facilities. You can enjoy a drink and superb meal on the large terrace when you have finished playing and soak up the mountain and Mediterranean views. There is a well-stocked pro shop, putting green and practice area. There are ample buggies available and it is advisable to take advantage of these although the fitter golfer may wish to walk.

Estepona welcomes visitors and as the course is always popular you should ensure you book through Med Golf to avoid disappointment. Make sure this is part of your itinerary as Estepona is highly recommended by Med Golf.
