Welcome to our October newsletter and we have to start by congratulating Ian Woosnam and his European Ryder Cup team for their wonderful winning performance at the “K” Club. It certainly gives all of us involved in the golf industry a boost and hopefully this success will encourage even more visitors to play golf on the Costa del Sol.

You should also bear in mind that, on several courses along the coast, Med Golf members can enjoy green fee discounts of over 30 euros a round when they show their membership card. You can become a member for as little as 85 euros or £59 per year and that also includes Public Liability and Personal Accident Insurance whilst playing any golf course in Europe.

The Lewis Stagnetto trophy at La Duquesa on Sunday 17th September turned out to be a family affair, when young Josh Jones pushed his dad Kevin in to second place. Third place went to one of our most improved golfers, Mike Welsh.

After the SG Hambros competition on the 15th October, we will have the final line up for the Med Golf Masters, sponsored this year by Blue Sky Management, Aage Hempel Marine Electronics and Aloha Bookies. The present qualifiers, with their sponsors, for Valderrama on the 5th November are: -

We wish all the qualifiers and corporate guests the best of luck on the day and as the Volvo Masters will be concluded the Sunday before, the course should be in immaculate condition with fast greens.

There will be plenty of fireworks at Valderrama in more ways than one!

21st October   Estepona Golf   DREAMFLIGHT Charity competition

This charity event is an individual stableford, with tee times from 8 a.m. onwards. The green fee including BBQ is 50 euros per person, with buggies at 35 euros. Charity benefits as 50% of your green fee, buggy, pro shop, bar and restaurant takings will be donated to the charity. There will also be a mammoth raffle on the day.

Our “player of the year” rankings are based on the average of the best 5 competition scores over the year and it is early days to predict a winner at this stage, with several players already in contention.

At Med Golf we are extremely fortunate to be in a position to help visitors to this part of the world and along the way we have made many friends, none more so than the “Plumb” lads, who mostly come from Bicester in the UK.

Back in 1986, Plumb International Ltd. was given the task of refurbishing the Gibraltar Casino and employed their own team from the UK to undertake the work. Many of the lads were keen golfers and they formed an alliance through Ted Wheatcroft with the PSA (Public Services Agency) and later Rock Golf, where regular weekly competitions were held. Many friendships were formed and even after the work had been completed and the PSA was no more, the “Plumb” lads have always been determined to maintain an annual golfing visit and base themselves in Gibraltar. Many individuals have been involved in making their visits a happy one and we at Med Golf, under the guidance of Johnathan, would like to think we are carrying on that tradition.

Fourteen players made the last trip and they have just returned to the UK after spending 4 days golfing with us. This makes nineteen consecutive years and shows the determination of all concerned to keep this friendship going.

As we did when they were here, we raise our glasses to the “Plumb” lads and look forward to another 19 years friendship.
