We hope you have enjoyed the summer and with the weather getting cooler over the next few months, we are entering the “high season” for green fees on the Costa del Sol and Costa de la Luz. At the same time, courses will be that much busier and if you are thinking of or have already arranged to play here, you should ensure you have your accommodation and tee time bookings in place. This is part of our core business and we are more than happy to help with the organising, so remember our “price promise” for any golfing/holiday package and green fees. We check our rates weekly and will not be beaten by any of our competitors. To keep your costs low, we don’t charge booking fees or make any additional charges when paying by credit card.

We enjoy a very good relationship with the majority of courses along the coast and as we have said before, in some instances Med Golf members can enjoy green fee discounts of over 30 euros a round when they show their membership card. If you are not a member of a club and play regularly along the coast, then it would certainly benefit you financially to join Med Golf. Anyone can join and it costs a mere 85 euros or £59 per year but that is insignificant when you think of the savings you can make on green fees and the fact it also includes Public Liability and Personal Accident Insurance whilst playing any golf course in Europe.

Congratulations to one of Med Golf’s long standing members, Mike Cowburn, for winning the Renson Management trophy at Dehesa Montenmedio on August Bank holiday Sunday. Another of our stalwarts, Tim Mitchell, finished second, closely followed by young Dan Kenyon.
As the countdown to the Med Golf Masters (sponsored by Blue Sky Management and Aage Hempel Marine Electronics) continues, Mike now joins Louis Calvente, Denny To, Nicky Sanchez, Russ Crawford, Frank Samways, Andy Griffin, Neil Emmerson, Tom Parry, Josh Hunter, Geoff Watchorn, Finbar Holland, Dan Aldridge and Jeff Richardson at Valderrama on Sunday November 5th.
There are only a couple of events left for members to secure their place, with the next qualifying competition being the Lewis Stagnetto trophy at La Duquesa on Sunday 17th September.

Our new “season” for 2006/07 “player of the year” rankings started with the Renson Management trophy at Dehesa Montenmedio and Mike Cowburn, Tim Mitchell and Dan Kenyon have all started well. As they say, it is a marathon and not a sprint, so there is plenty of time for several other names to appear on the leader board before next July. Rankings are based on the average of the best 5 competition scores over the year.
As a reminder, our “player of the year” will receive a year’s membership, valued at over 1400 euros, kindly donated and sponsored by Estepona Golf Club. There is also the small matter of an invite to the Med Golf Masters at Valderrama in November 2007.
Throughout the year we will keep you up to date on how the season is progressing and full details of the ranking scores are on the website.

Last month’s winner was Paul Neale, who knew that Anthony Wall was the leading English golfer in the British Open.
We don’t get out much at Med Golf and it is very rare we are able to participate in any of our tournaments when we are working at them. However, the exception is when we go away for the bank holiday weekends and we were fortunate to be able to play in the last event at Dehesa Montenmedio. All the directors managed to get a game and one even won a prize for “nearest the pin” at the 16th. The rest of us could not believe this, as the person involved has had a “lean” time recently, so we asked the group in front what sort of shot was it? The reply came “ To be honest it was amazing – few men have ever executed a shot of that magnificent calibre on the 16th at Montecastillo. Mind you after seeing his card, it was probably bl--dy lucky to!” Another spectator said, “It was the best swing he has ever made or was it the only swing he has ever made?” Another said, “Simply magnificent – who was it?”
Stand up and take a bow Johnathan Goodson and we are sorry for doubting your ability.
