After 5 years of participating in Med Golf events, one of our long standing members Steve Parry eventually managed to win a tournament! He collected the Ibex Insurance trophy at Estepona on Sunday 14th January. Second place went to Geoff Watchorn, with Vinny Samways third. Well done Steve and we are all pleased for you at Med Golf.
In our event at Calanova Golf Club on the 18th February, the winner of the Gala Casino trophy was none other than Vinny Samways, whom all Spurs fans will have fond memories of. Vinny is still as trim and fit as he was in his playing days, although he will tell you he is not as quick as he used to be! Congratulations to Vinny and in second place was Danny Tovie, with Gunter Schafer third.

John McHale, followed by Denny To in second place and Gary Edwards third, won the Johnnie Walker trophy held at Dona Julia Golf Club on Sunday 18th March. John is another first time winner with Med Golf and well done to him.

Another keen Med Golf supporter was successful at Montenmedio on Sunday 15th April, when Chris Warren won the Barclays trophy. Second place went to Juan Rodriguez with Louis Calvente third. Well done to Chris who is one of Med Golf’s most prominent golfers.
Steve, Vinny, John and Chris also received their coveted Valderrama invitations and now take their place alongside George Desoisa for the Med Golf Masters in November.

All our events are held on the leading courses along the Costa del Sol and Costa de la Luzand this year we have arranged further tournaments at Santa Maria, Santana, Estepona, El Paraiso, Alcaidesa, Montenmedio, Novo Sancti Petri and Sherry Golf clubs. All these venues give our members the opportunity to play the world famous Valderrama at the end of our golfing “season”. When you read on further, you will see we have even arranged a round at Gleneagles and also a tournament at Carnoustie, the venue for this year’s British Open!

BFBS are holding a charity event on behalf of Wireless for the Blind, which is a 4 ball Texas Scramble with a shotgun start. The cost is 75 euros, which includes your round, buggy and lunch. There will also be the usual prizes and raffle.

We have been a bit short on the ground recently as our newsman/jack-of-all trades David decided to take a break and treat his wife to few days away over the New Year. Whereas the rest of us just have a couple of weeks at a time, he departed Gibraltar on the 28th December 2006 and finally returned here on the 8th April 2007! Seemingly he set sail from Falmouth on the 4th January heading westwards and had 93 days at sea cruising the world, visiting 28 different ports in 18 countries, including such exotic places as the West Indies, Papeete and Bora Bora in Tahiti, as well as Tonga before moving on to New Zealand, Australia and back towards South Africa before making for home. What a life he has in retirement and hopefully he will now get back to work!
Welcome back David and we look forward to hearing the many tales you will no doubt tell when we have time for a few beers.
