Welcome to our last newsletter of the year and it is hard to believe another Christmas and New Year is nearly upon us. Where did 2006 go?

Christmas came early for George Desoiza when he won the Valmar Pharmacy trophy at Alcaidesa on Sunday 10th December. Not only did he collect the sponsor’s crystal trophy but also the first golden invitation for the Med Golf Masters at Valderrama in November 2007. Second place went to Juan Rodriguez, with the sponsor himself, Francis Caruana coming third. Roy Azzopardi won the senior section with Julie Brewer again picking up the ladies title.
We have now re-scheduled the Ibex Insurance Trophy for Sunday 14th January 2007 at Estepona, so you can book your tee times for this by ringing Johnathan on Spain (0034) 639 741 886 or e-mail him at jg@medgolf.gi
The tournament programme then continues at Almenara on Saturday 27th January where Famous Grouse are the sponsors. Again, just ring or e-mail Johnathan to get your name down for this.
For both of these competitions, the usual crystal trophies will be on offer and that coveted invitation for the Med Golf Masters at Valderrama in November 2007.
Just a short note to congratulate four Med Golf members who have been selected for the Gibraltar golf team and they will be representing their country in the Small Island Games at Rhodes in July 2007. They are Francis Caruana, George Desoiza, Paul Edinburgh and the “veteran” of the team Roy Azzopardi. We would just like to say well-done and good luck to all of them.

We are now under way for the 2006/07 player of the year award and the rankings will shortly be updated to give us the latest position.

Last month’s winner was Tom Rooney who knew Paul Azinger was the next American Ryder Cup captain.
How do the sayings go? "Form is temporary but class is permanent" or "the cream always rises to the top". Well this was certainly the case at Estepona on Saturday 2nd December when I am pleased to say the Med Golf Directors team won the "Wireless for the Blind" competition and therefore took all the deserved accolades on the day! In one of our rare days out together, modesty stops me from saying too much but in the Texas Scramble format we birdied six consecutive holes and we were seven under par for the front nine holes, which gave us a good start. One Director, who should remain nameless, also chipped in a couple of times and was last seen "riding" his club across the fairways in celebration. By our enthusiasm you could tell we don’t get out much!
It was a superb day all round and we all had a good time, with excellent food and great company but the most important factor was that loads of money was raised for the "Wireless for the Blind" charity.
Thank you to Estepona and everybody concerned for all the support on the day.
