We had a fantastic time in Scotland and all the results are featured later in this newsletter. It was really nice to get away for a few days, play some of the finest courses in the home of golf, forget about work and make several new friends along the way! We were treated very well on our travels and it was important to us as holidaymakers and not organisers, to see first hand what our clients expect when we arrange their golfing holidays.

One of Med Golf’s most loyal supporters, John Dale, was successful at Cabopino on Sunday 3rd June, when he won the Gala Casino trophy. He beat Paul Singleton in to second place with Gunther Schafer third and now joins previous competition winners, George Desoisa, Steve Parry, Vinny Samways, John McHale and James O’Docherty for the Med Golf Masters at Valderrama in November.

We are in the process of looking at all the latest results and will include the up to date ranking list in the next e-mail news. George Desoisa is still leading the way and is looking the favourite but as we know there is still a long way to go and anything can happen in golf!

Last months winner was David Moore who knew that Everton was the other premiership team Vinny Samways played for.
Med Golf members George Desoisa, Roy Azzopardi, Paul Edinburgh and Francis Caruana are off to Rhodes at the end of June to represent Gibraltar in the Small Island Games. Since golf was included in 1997 at the Jersey games, the Gibraltar Golf Union has sent a representative team to every venue and always has the support of Med Golf behind them. Two practice days and four competition days show what a tough competition it is and we wish President Geoff Holt and his team good luck in their attempt to win medals.
We can’t finish the news without touching on our trip to Scotland and firstly must thank Johnathan for putting it all together for us but we couldn't understand why he didn't like the local Dundee cake that was offered to him? We had in total 24 golfers participating over the three days and can honestly say that every single one of us thoroughly enjoyed the experience of challenging true Scottish golf courses. We played in all sorts of conditions with wind and rain at Gleneagles, more wind and a little rain at Carnoustie, followed by warm sunshine at Scotscraig! We all agreed that Gleneagles was extremely difficult in the conditions but in our defence, the course was being prepared for the Johnnie Walker Championship European Tour event at the end of August. Congratulations to Steve Parry who was the only one to master the course and he won the initial test.
Scotscraig was a little easier, particularly as the weather was that much kinder and again this was in excellent condition in readiness for use as an Open qualifying course in a few weeks time. Soren Valbro Jensen certainly enjoyed the sun on his back and he capped a good weekend by winning the day’s event here.
As we mentioned earlier, Vinny Samways won the tournament event at Carnoustie and with it the Famous Grouse trophy, who were our sponsors for the day. The course was immaculate and a privilege to play, particularly as the British Open will be there shortly. We can now appreciate what the professionals have to do and well-done Vinny on a superb round.
We must thank Famous Grouse for supplying their well-known “tipple”, which was enjoyed by the bottle rather than the glass by most of us. There were certainly a few sore heads on the Sunday at breakfast!
