There was a welcome return to form for Lee Westwood when he won the recent Andalucia Open at the Aloha Golf Club. The weather was superb and showed the surrounding area in all its glory, with clear blue skies and bright sunshine. Hopefully it showed the watching millions on Sky Sports what the Costa del Sol has to offer and help to attract even more visitors to this part of the world. Cruz & Co. at Almenara
At Almenara on Sunday 13th May, James O’Docherty won the Cruz & Co. trophy and takes his place at Valderrama in November for the Med Golf Masters, where he joins previous competition winners George Desoisa, Steve Parry, Vinny Samways, John McHale and Chris Warren.
Tim Mitchell was second and Frank Samways third.

Sunday 3rd June – Gala Casino Trophy
Due to circumstances out of our control, we have changed the venue for the June competition to Cabopino. The Gala Casino, Gibraltar sponsor this event and the usual crystal trophies and prizes are on offer, together with that coveted invitation for the winner to compete in the Med Golf Masters at Valderrama in November.

Not long to go now for our long awaited trip to Scotland where we play the championship courses at Gleneagles and Carnoustie, as well as the beautiful Scotscraig course. Carnoustie is home to this year’s British Open and we are privileged and delighted to be able to have a competition day there on Saturday 16th June where Famous Grouse will be the sponsors. A Med Golf Masters Valderrama invitation will also be on offer to the winner. Scotscraig is also one of the courses that will be used for the Open qualifiers, so we have some fabulous courses to look forward to

San Roque (new Course)
Throughout the summer, San Roque will be running a series of open stableford tournaments where you can participate in any one of these for just 60 euros a round. The future tournament dates are 26th May, 23rd June, 28th July, 25th August and 6th October. If you want, you can play in all of them and there will be a special prize for the overall winner, with 4 out of 7 scores to count.

What a shake up in our player of the year rankings, with a few new names emerging as contenders. The consistent George Desoisa now has a slight advantage over Steve Parry and Johann Olivera but there is still a lot for everyone to play for. Remember the rankings are based on the average of the 5 best scores over our tournament season and the present top 10 is: -

We normally like to finish with a funny story or event but all we have to offer this month is that our Handicap Director, John Hunter, was 40 years old in May, although he wants us to point out he still has a mind and a body of an 18 year old! As proper news is scarce and to make this section more interesting, we thought we would include a joke a client sent to us, which goes as follows:
A couple made a deal that whoever died first would come back and inform the other of the afterlife. Their biggest fear was that there was no afterlife. After a very long life, unfortunately the husband was the first to go and true to his word he made contact with his wife. The conversation went: -
“Mary, Mary”
“Is that you Fred”
“What’s it like?”
“Well, I get up in the morning, I have sex, I have breakfast, I go off to the golf course, I have sex, I sunbathe and then have sex twice. I then have lunch followed by another walk around the golf course, then sex pretty much all afternoon. After supper, it’s the golf course again then sex until late at night. Every day is the same”.
“Oh Fred, you must surely be in heaven”
“Not exactly – I’m a rabbit in Suffolk!”
