Welcome to our November e-news and congratulations to Justin Rose winning the Volvo Masters and the European Order Of Merit at Valderrama on Sunday.
At Med Golf, we are also looking forward to celebrating our own season’s prestigious finale, the Med Golf Masters, where we invite all our tournament winners for 2006/07 to compete in their own competition at Valderrama. The event takes place this Sunday 11th November and we will be playing on exactly the same course as the top sixty players in the PGA Order of Merit, so the course will be in superb condition for us and we can expect some fireworks on the greens. We have a few corporate places still available, if you would like to play Valderrama for our Corporate Trophy event, alongside our qualifiers then e-mail us today!

As a member, you can participate in all our tournaments and get your chance to play Valderrama, as well as win a superb weekend for two at one of our major holiday destinations. SG Hambros Trophy
Our competition at Dehessa Montenmedio on Sunday 14th October saw Rodney sheriff put in a stunning performance to win the SG Hambros trophy from Kevin castle and Alan Sene. He took the sponsors trophy and a weekend for two at the Montecastillio Golf and Spa Resort, near Jerez.
Sunday 25th November – Estepona
Aage Hempel International sponsors this event with the winner receiving their crystal trophy, as well as the superb prize of a weekend for two at the 5-star La Cala resort. This is also a ranking tournament with all the usual crystal trophies and prizes on offer.

Med Golf Masters
As we mentioned earlier, Sunday 11th November sees the climax of our 2006/07 season with the prestigious Med Golf Masters taking place at Valderrama. This month’s question is:-
In the recent Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, name the young 18 year old Irish golfer who came third and therefore secured his PGA tour card in only his second professional event?
Last month’s winner was Roy Couchman who knew America retained the Solheim Cup by the margin of sixteen points to twelve.
We had a superb time with our friends, the “Plumb lads” from Bicester, who as usual were in fine form and have to thank our own Johnathan for keeping up with them for the few days they were here. Rumour has it he slept for over 24 hours after they left!
As in previous years we welcomed 14 players and after a couple of days practice, we all got in to competition mode with the inaugural Gibraltar Arms Quaich Cup at Alcaidesa on the Saturday. This was a 2 ball, better-ball competition, with 8 teams competing after we lent them a couple of players, which unfortunately didn’t affect the result. Med Golf won these seven matches to one and as a matter of courtesy we won’t say who lost for us!
We then moved on to Dona Julia for the Sunday competition, which was for the long standing Friendship Cup and the lads must have had an earlier night as the result was very much closer. On an individual match play basis with fifteen players apiece, Med Golf also won here by eight and a half matches to six and a half, thus retaining the cup for another year. It was always a very close contest and with just three matches left out on the course, it was six matches each but the experience we put at the end of the field managed to win the day for us!
It only goes for us to say thank you once again to the Plumb lads for their continued friendship and we look forward to arranging your visit next year.
We thought we would have a light hearted, tongue in cheek look at some of our wonderful sponsors, who have been spotted on the golf course over the last few weeks.
It seems the “black crow” will have to keep his eye on Barclay’s main man Franco Cassar in the future as he thinks there is a possibility he may be protecting his handicap! He was watching him play at Dehessa the other Saturday and after a superb front nine that included a birdie on the 9th he had accumulated 19 points. He then proceeded to manage just 11 points on the back nine and that was in front of Med Golf’s own handicap director. He said he was getting tired after a late night but the “black crow” is watching you Franco!
In our last competition at Dehesa we had the shot of the day from Bruce Duckworth of sponsors SG Hambros. On the first and in front of several witnesses, Bruce sent his tee shot right, where the ball severely “kicked” on the path and landed safely lodged in the branch of a tree. Bruce was advised that he must do a “Bernard Langer” and climb the said tree to play his ball. Did he do it? – only Bruce can tell you what happened next!
