Sunday 29th June – Latino's Banus Trophy
Dan Kenyon receiving the Latinos Banus trophy from Med Golf director Mike Goodson Over 60 players competed for the Latinos Banus Trophy held at El Chaparral Golf Club, with Dan Kenyon winning the sponsor’s crystal trophy and the weekend for two at the 5-star La Cala Resort. Dan was followed by Jim Turner and Tim Rickson, who came second and third respectively. The familiar name of Frank Samways was top senior and the ladies section was won by Julie Brewer. The day’s other prize winners were John McHale, Colin Bye, Martin Scales, Soren Valbro Jensen, Simon Pearce, Rob Mchardy and Martyn Brown, who was our “star quality” award winner. Paul Appleyard receiving the Stendata Trophy from Med Golf director John Hunter The Santana Golf Club was the venue for the competition on Sunday 6th July and winning this one was Paul Appleyard, closely followed by Kevin Valentine and Tim Mitchell in second and third places. Paul received the sponsor’s crystal trophy along with the weekend for two at the La Cala Resort. There was some consolation for Tim as our top senior and Julie Brewer added another trophy to her collection by winning the ladies section. Other prize winners were Richard McHardy, Josh Hunter, Ian Blair, Glen Hislop, John Hunter and once again Martyn Brown was our “star quality” man. After each competition we analyse the scores through our handicap system and adjustments are made accordingly. Thursday 24th July – Costa del Sol Golf News Tournament – Flamingos Golf Costa del Sol Golf News invite you to their golf tournament, which is a Stableford competition with a shotgun start at 9.30 am. The green fee is just 60 euros to include a buggy and there are loads of trophies and prizes to be won. After entering the last two results, there have been significant changes in the “player of the year” standings and the competition at Estepona on Sunday 27th July will be make or break for several golfers! Now they have completed the required number of tournaments, Tim Rickson swiftly moves in to top spot with young Dan Kenyon in close attendance. Our top ten going in to the last 2007/08 qualifying event at Estepona is:-
It will be very nerve wracking at Estepona but at the end of the competition we will find our “player of the year”. The number one player will receive a 12 month membership to Estepona Golf club, valued at over 1400 euros, along with an invitation to the EPI Iberia Med Golf Masters at Valderrama on Saturday 27th September. There will also be Valderrama invitations to the remaining top ten so will there be any more changes in the final positions? |

What a golfing year it has been as we move in to the final 2007/08 competition, which will determine our “player of the year” and the ten for Valderrama. We have seen the leader board change on many occasions and even at this very late stage, there are still so many players in with a chance if they can just improve that one score. It looks as though I may have blown my chances as the updated results see me down in 53rd place! We would just like to thank every player who has made this competition so interesting and good luck to everyone at Estepona on the 27th July. In view of the success, the “player of the year” competition will be repeated in the same format for the 2008/09 “season”, which starts with our competition on Sunday 24th August, sponsored by O’Reillys Ocean Village. The “black crow” has been keeping an eye on our intrepid “world” traveller David, who has just returned from a short break in Mexico. On his return, he noticed he had a tattoo on the top of his right arm, which read “POSH”. Seemingly, this is the nickname of his beloved football team, Peterborough United and nothing to do with David Beckham’s other half. When questioned, David said he couldn’t remember having it done but remembers losing 24 hours somewhere. Obviously too many Tequillas! Happy golfing and remember we are your playing partners!
