Sunday 1st June – Lewis Stagnetto Trophy – Marbella Golf Club
Players for the Lewis Stagnetto Trophy and John Dale receiving the trophy from Marbella Golf club captain, John McNamara There was another excellent turnout for our latest tournament at the Marbella Golf & Country Club on Sunday 1st June, where Captain John McNamara and his staff made us feel very welcome. One of our long standing members John Dale beat over 60 golfers to take the Lewis Stagnetto trophy and the weekend for two at the 5-star La Cala resort. Second place went to Graham Berry, with young Josh Hunter third and they won vouchers to exchange in the pro shop. It was a good day for John, as with his partner Frank Samways he took the team prize and his good round ensured he moved back in to the top ten of our rankings. The ageless Frank was also the day’s top senior, winning the ladies section was Julie Burgess and Martyn Brown added another trophy to his collection by taking the “star quality” award. Amongst the other prize winners, Dan Kenyon had the best gross score and the longest drive and nearest the pin winners were John McHale, Julie Burgess, Louis Calvente and Vinny Samways.

Sunday 29th June – Latinos Banus Trophy - El Chaparral Golf Club Sunday 6th July – Stendata Trophy – Santana Golf Club As we move towards our final event for the 2007/08 “player of the year” and “top ten” standings, these are very important events in our calendar. Make sure you book your tee times by ringing Johnathan on Spain (0034) 639741886 or e-mail him at jg@medgolf.gi The winners of these events will receive the sponsor’s crystal trophy and a weekend for two at one of our 5-star resorts. The other usual trophies and prizes will also be on offer. |

Sunday 22nd June – Estepona Golf Club – “PADS” Charity Event This is a charity event for the “PADS” animal charity organisation and is a four ball Texas Scramble. The cost is 55 euros per person, which includes green fee, buggy, prizes, BBQ and a donation to the charity. The cost for juniors under 18 is 45 euros. Support this event and book your tee time by e-mailing proshop@esteponagolf.com Thursday/Friday 7th & 8th August – San Roque Golf & Country Club As in previous years, San Roque is holding a spectacular summer event, which this year is on Thursday and Friday 7th / 8th August. They are looking for sponsored teams for the golf competition on the Thursday, where the winning team will receive a 10 day holiday to South Africa. The Friday will feature a concert by the Abba tribute band, “Bjorn Again”. Player of the year

After entering the results from the Lewis Stagenetto trophy at Marbella, John Dale moves back in to the top ten at the expense of Simon Young and Josh Hunter moves up to fourth place. The present top ten going in to El Chaparral are:-
We are getting ever closer to finding out who will be our “player of the year” and who will be at Valderrama. The final event on Sunday 27th July is going to be nerve wracking for a few players! Needless to say we are absolutely delighted with the response from the majority of golf courses along the coast to our membership card scheme and the discounts they are offering on green fees. Unfortunately, events out of our control generally dictate how busy the golf scene will be but in turn, we would like to think we can stimulate business by encouraging golf through our membership scheme. We do appreciate all the help we are being given by golf directors at the various courses and long may it continue so we can ensure the Costa del Sol remains competitive. After El Chaparral and Santana we move to Estepona on Sunday 27th July for our final qualifying event and find out who our “player of the year” is for 2007/08 and the ten qualifiers are for Valderrama. It looks as though I may have blown my chance as I have now slipped to 45th in the rankings! The Med Golf tournament team played recently in the Barclays Wealth Blind Golf Invitation 2008, staged at San Roque and organised by prominent Med Golf member Paul Appleyard, where Jose Maria Canizares was guest of honour. We all found the day a fascinating insight in to how the human spirit can overcome adversity and flourish – these golfers are truly inspirational! The “black crow” was spending some quality time with his other half at the San Roque hotel the other week and looked in on the celebrations for the local Rock Golf Ladies night and prize presentation. At the end of the formalities, there was one very special award, which was given to our very own tournament referee Mike Goodson, for his services to local golf over many years. Mike was given life honorary membership to Rock Golf for his years of dedication, which is well deserved. Well done Mike from us all at Med Golf – we never knew you were that old! Happy golfing and remember we are your playing partners!
