Welcome to our latest e-news and as we approach Easter, this is the time of the year when golfers are looking forward to spending a few days away in the warmer climate of the Costa de Sol.
As we have said many times before, there are more and more courses on offer and promise you cannot book cheaper packages anywhere else. Remember our price promise where we won’t be beaten by any of our competitors.

Unfortunately, after 9 holes we had to call off the Cruz & Co. trophy at Almenara on the 17th February due to the rain. This has been rescheduled for Sunday 27th April and further details follow.
Johnnie Walker Trophy – Dona Julia Golf Club - Sunday 16th March

Prakash Nagrani and Alfred Victory from local agents Saccone and Speed, presenting the Johnnie Walker crystal trophy to Jim Turner.
We had nearly 70 golfers competing for the Johnnie Walker trophy at Dona Julia and leading the way with a magnificent score of 40 stableford points was Jim Turner, closely followed by Tim Rickson and Iain Garside who came second and third respectively. Jim not only won the sponsor’s crystal trophy but a weekend for two at the superb 5-star Montecastillio Golf Hotel and Spa resort and perhaps a handicap cut! It was a great effort by Tim and Iain, with Tim also returning the best gross score of the day with a magnificent round of 74 and Iain won the senior section. They both received vouchers to spend in the pro shop. Julie Brewer was the leading lady and Chris Warren and George Lee were the top team with an aggregate score of 72 points. The “star quality” award went to Claudio D’Ascenzi once again, the longest drive was recorded by John McHale and Frank Samways had the best aggregate score on the par 3’s. Nearest the pin winners were Keith Valentine Steve Parry (twice) Jackie Garside, Iain Garside and Graham Berry.

Saturday 5th April – Estepona Golf Club – Andy’s Captains Day
Med Golf members are invited to play in Andy’s Captain’s Day where the format is a four ball Texas scramble with a shotgun start at 9am. The cost is just 70 euros and includes coffee and bacon roll on arrival, green fee, buggy, trophies and BBQ lunch. You need to register in the pro shop by 8.15 am.

Sunday 13th April – Alcaidesa Golf Club – Antico Mulin D’Oro Trophy
We are looking forward to our first competition on the new “Heathland” course at Alcaidesa where the Antico Mulin D’Oro crystal trophy will be on offer, as well as a weekend for two at the excellent 5-star Montecastillio Golf & Spa hotel.
This is another important ranking event to determine our top ten, with all the other usual crystal trophies and prizes being on offer
Sunday 27th April – Almenara Golf Club – Cruz & Co. Trophy
As we mentioned earlier, we started the Cruz & Co. trophy at Almenara in February but had to call the players in after nine holes due to the weather conditions. This event has now been rescheduled for Sunday 27th April and hopefully all those players who took part last time will re-enter. They will receive a free round as Almenara kindly gave us a credit slip for everybody who went out and Johnathan does have a note of your names.
The competition is not restricted to the original participants and if there is anybody else who wants to join us on the day, they are quite welcome to do so. Apart from the sponsor’s crystal trophy, all the other prizes will be on offer, as well as a weekend for two at the 5-star Montecastillio Golf and Spa hotel going to the winner.

Tuesday 10th June- San Roque New Course- Costa del Sol Blind Golf invitation
Ever played golf with a blind person before? In association with Med Golf, now’s your chance when six English and two Spanish golfers play in a charity competition on the 10th June at the San Roque Club.
Sponsored by Barclays Wealth, Paul Appleyard invites corporate teams of three to join a blind golfer and see how the game is played with little or no vision. Your own teams of four are also invited to take part, all in aid of Blind Golf.
The cost is £450 or 600 euros for a team of three joining a blind golfer and £600 or 800 euros for your own team of four. The price includes trophies, prizes, green fee, buggy and light post evening meal.

Josh Jones still leads the way followed by John McHale but there has been significant movement with the inclusion of Chris Warren, Frank Samways and Soren Valbro Jenson at the expense of Kevin Jones, Roy Azzopardi and Joe Sanchez.
As more and more players complete the required five tournaments and others improve their recorded scores, we can expect changes every month until the end of July!

We were disappointed that we had to call the players in at Almenara during the Cruz & Co. tournament but with the greens beginning to flood it was the right decision. We have to put on record our thanks to all concerned at Almenara, who immediately agreed with our decision and instantly offered us a credit note for the green fees that had been paid. On behalf of us all at Med Golf, we do appreciate your help on the day and for giving us a date of the 27th April for the event to be rescheduled.
We must also thank all those fifty or so hardy souls who turned up on the day in the wet weather and for making such an effort to support our tournament. We would like to think you are very loyal members or perhaps it is just you are slightly mad to even consider playing in such conditions! Spare a thought also for Mike Goodson, our tournament referee and starter on the day, who stood on the 1st tee for over 2 hours in the pouring rain, to make sure everyone got away on time. Well done Mike and we noticed the “Black Crow” didn’t even make an appearance from under your wet weather gear to support you. That shows how bad the rain was!
As the weather improved, the black crow was back at Dona Julia and couldn’t help noticing the youthful Dan Kenyon looking very dapper in red trousers and brilliant white polo shirt. It seems he is being sponsored to wear the corporate colours of the Life Problems Rehabilitation Centre at El Paraiso and really did look the best dressed golfer on the day. Could this start a new sponsorship trend amongst our members?
