Montenmedio was the venue for our tournament on Sunday 12th October and it turned out to be a good day for one of our regulars John Dale. He won the SG Hambros Trophy and with it a weekend for two at the superb 5-star resort at La Cala. In second place was Duncan Balban, with John Hunter third and they both won vouchers to exchange in the pro shop. Duncan's performance also earned him our “star quality” award and John added to his list of achievements on the day by recording the best gross score with a fine round of 78, as well as winning the prize for the lowest score on the par 3's.The senior division was won by John Caruana, the top lady was Barbara Briggs, with the team prize going to Joe Sanchez and Stefan Larsson. The day's other prize winners were George Desoisa, Paul Appleyard, Neville Dennitt and Simon Young

Player of the Year

We have now played three tournaments which count towards the 2008/09 player of the year rankings and already have some familiar names on the leader board waiting to secure their invitation to the Med Golf Masters at Valderrama (link) in late summer 2009.
Remember you must play in a minimum of five of our tournaments to qualify but here is the present leader board just for information.

1. 36.00 - Simon Young
2. 35.00 - Bill Curbishley
3. 33.50 - George DeSoisa
4. 33.30 - Joe Sanchez
5. 32.00 - Peter Rees
6. 32.00 - Stefan Larsson
7. 32.00 - John Dale
8. 32.00 - Duncan Balban
9. 31.50 - John Hunter
10.31.00 - Alan Sene

Will you be at Valderrama?

And finally...

We are well under way with our qualification events for the 2008/09 season and Johnathan is presently putting together the remainder of the competition schedule, which concludes at Estepona in July 2009. When we have everything confirmed we will update our tournament schedule page so you can make a note in your diary. Once again, the player of the year competition is generating a lot of interest with some familiar names already appearing on the leader board, although until we have played the required number of qualification events a true picture won't emerge. On looking at the proposed itinerary, we have some fine golf courses to visit yet and look forward to working with our sponsors at these venues. Good luck to everyone and I will see you at Valderrama when I qualify!

I The “black crow” heard a rumour the our man David was having a bit of back trouble and was seeing an acupuncturist once a week to try and ease the pain. When questioned he admitted he was struggling but the problem was a result of all his sporting activities over many years and nothing to do with arthritis or old age! At our Montenmedio tournament, Johnathan also noticed he had “seeds” clipped to his ears and supposedly this is part of the treatment to improve the feeling to the neck and lower back. He also admitted he was taking edible clay, which is recommended and helps to remove the acidity from the body. Obviously, where they place the needles is the main treatment and there are several places they can be put for good effect. Good job it is only his back that needs attention or they might just run out of needles!

Happy golfing and remember we are your playing partners!
