Description
This superb golfing complex is one of Europe's most secluded and exclusive set in the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja. San Roque forms one side of the golden triangle of Spanish golf along with the world famous courses at Sotogrande and Valderrama. The Suites Hotel that is part of the complex offers 5 star accommodation and played host to both teams at the 1997 Ryder Cup and the competitors at the AmEx world golf championships. San Roque has also played host to the annual PGA European Tour Qualifying School on a number of occasions.

The 18 hole championship course was a result of a joint effort by British designer Dave Thomas and the Japanese owner Asahi Kanko in anticipation of it hosting major European Championship events and founded in 1990.

The course has two distinct loops and is regarded as one of the finest in Spain. The first 9 holes set off into cork oaks that are a feature of the course and will eventually return you to the clubhouse. The second 9 are considered to be that little bit more open but you have to contend with some serious water hazards with meandering streams and ponds to negotiate. The course offers a mixture of short and long par 4's, par 5's which for the long hitters are reachable in two and excellent par 3's. San Roque rewards the accurate golfer who can overcome the tight fairways and tiered undulating greens. It is a course that gives pleasure to all standards.

One thing you will find at San Roque is the course is always presented in magnificent condition. The fairways are well dressed, the bunkers look a picture and the greens are usually immaculate. This is all part of the standards offered at the San Roque complex.

If you are playing in this area, why not include San Roque New Course as part of your itinerary, as both course are well worth playing and offer something different. This is a very new course but it has matured very quickly and is also in magnificent condition. It is a very good test of golf and you will enjoy it.

On arrival at San Roque you will find ample parking and a magnificent clubhouse with bar and restaurant facilities and a large terrace area. The staff are always friendly and look after you superbly. The changing rooms are first class with well- equipped shower facilities. There is a well- stocked pro shop and large practice area that includes putting and pitching greens.

San Roque welcomes visitors and you should book in advance through Med Golf to avoid disappointment as the course can get very busy.

San Roque also has its own stylish 5-star suites hotel where you can take advantage of all the facilities on offer and the beautiful surrounding countryside while enjoying the best comfort and luxury that is available. Why not let Med Golf organise your holiday or golfing break where you are only a step away from the tee?

San Roque is certainly well worth a visit and highly recommended by Med Golf.
