Description
Under the guidance of club manager Colin Mosely, Santa Maria is considered one of the most friendly golf and country clubs along the Costa del Sol.

The course is situated on the edge of pine trees and cork oaks and the first nine holes were originally designed by the Spanish Ryder Cup player Antonio Garrido and opened in 1991. The subsequent nine holes were designed by Santa Maria's own technical team and opened in 1996.

The course traces the contours of two valleys in which the natural vegetation, streams and lakes form natural hazards. If you drive well you will like this course and the fairways are always in good condition. The greens are generously on the large side and are considered some of the best along the coast. One feature is that most of the tees are elevated and this gives you a bird's eye view of your target area. Another is the abundance of land the course is constructed on but great attention has been given to the characteristics and appearance at Santa Maria. To play here is a very pleasant experience and can be enjoyed by all standards of golfer. If your golf is not going well you will be at peace here in an area steeped in nature.

There is a good mixture of tight and open holes, long and short holes and holes where care is needed and test even the best. Amongst the most spectacular holes is the seventh where the green is surrounded by bunkers and the eleventh where a lake and waterfall border the green.

On arrival you will find ample parking and all the required changing facilities are at hand. The course can be walked but there are buggies available if desired and are particularly advisable in the hotter weather. There are practice facilities with lessons available both in a group or individually and a well-stocked pro shop to browse around. You can enjoy the food and drink at the Spanish style bar/restaurant or on the upstairs terrace from where you can watch players from the first tee off. Spot how many times the ball lands in the lake from the tee!

Apart from the golf, Santa Maria has a superb country club that is worth a visit in its own right. There is a wealth of luxury facilities to enjoy such as lawn bowls, swimming pools, tennis courts, bars, restaurants, terraces etc. etc. You can easily spend a day here and relax in your own time.

Santa Maria is such a friendly place to visit you should make it part of your intinerary if you are along this part of the Costa del Sol. As it is always a popular golf course you should let Med Golf book your tee time in advance to avoid disappointment.
