Al Maaden Golf Resort Marrakech

Al Maaden is a high end developer of golf resorts, and the association chose Marrakech for its latest project. In an attempt to ensure that the new golf course would be a Moroccan star, they commissioned Kyle Phillips, arguably the hottest designer of the modern era.

The results are spectacular, as Phillips has used his undeniable gift to manipulate the varied terrain, in so creating a course that assimilates perfectly with its surrounding environment. The indigenous foliage punctuates the landscape, where Phillips course is a measured challenge that can be enjoyed by golfers of all abilities.

Unlike the great architects other projects, notably Kingsbarns, Al Maaden has not been created with the aim of becoming an international tournament venue. Rather, it is a gem that is sure to be enjoyed by generations of golfers for years to come.

Samanah Country Club

This beautiful course is situated around eight miles from Marrakech airport near the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Like many Marrakech courses, it is a visual treat with the Atlas Mountains framing fairways lined by indigenous trees such as olive and palm as well as cactus.

This is not only one of the most spectacular courses in Morocco it's also one of the very best. The 18 hole layout is both challenging and fun with typical Nicklaus risk-reward shots - often combined with water hazards - cropping up all through the round and wide rolling fairways leading to huge well protected greens. The course was also built to USGA standards, which ensures a consistent high standard of conditioning all year round.

Samanah has installed a modern watering system which uses minimal water by measuring the exact amount required by the vegetation, while a special variety of grass has been used here that is suitable for the Moroccan climate, needing less water and making it an ecologically sound resort.

The clubhouse is a lovely place to retire to after your round, and lives up to the grandeur of the course with architecture inspired by the city walls of Marrakech. The interior features fountains, beautiful Moroccan mosaics and wood carvings and boasts an impressive bar, restaurant, bridge lounge, pro-shop and well-equipped changing rooms for men and women. There's also a large terrace overlooking the sweeping fairways and distant snow capped mountains.

Golf Club Rotana Palmeraie Marrakech

Situated less than 20 minutes North of central Marrakech within the Palmeraie Resort, Golf Club Rotana Palmeraie Marrakech is a 27 hole championship golfing destination which was put together by famed designer Robert Trent Jones Sr. As one of the world’s top golf course architects Trent Jones Sr has constructed many masterpieces including Ryder Cup venues Valderrama Golf Club and Hazeltine National Golf Club.

As Marrakech’s 2nd oldest golf course, Golf Club Rotana Palmeraie Marrakech has welcomed golfers since 1992. The course has become a popular destination as part of a Morocco golf holiday with golfers enjoying the excellent onsite accommodation at Hotel du Golf or Palmeraie Palace and the challenge offered by this great resort golf course.

The incredible palm grove that frames the golf course dates back to the 11th century and was created by the soldiers of Almoravid Sultan Youssef ben Tachfine who returned from the Sahara with dates that made a 45-square mile palm grove that we can enjoy today.
