The course is around 6,900 yards off the yellow tees and was designed with European Tour events in mind, but it can be enjoyed by players of all levels thanks to five different tee positions. The greens are generous with many putting surfaces featuring gentle but long slopes and large number of flag positions, designed to provide each hole with a variety of flag positions. The fairways are generous and forgiving and the greens have gentle long slopes and offer a large number of flag positions, designed so that each hole on the course can made easier or more difficult depending on how the course is set up on the day. The clubhouse sits high on the hillside and enjoys panoramic vistas over the course. It offers a wide range of delicious dishes inspired by the best cuisine from the Costa del Sol region and complemented by a substantial wine list. El Paraiso Golf Club Having originally been designed in 1973 by Gary Player, El Paraiso Golf Club has attracted golf holidaymakers in the Costa del Sol for decades. Located west of Marbella in Estepona, this par-71 18 hole golf course measures over 6,600 yards to create a superb test of golf for all handicaps. Meandering through palm trees and mature Andalucia countryside, El Paraiso utilises its natural terrain with mountain views to create a challenge that focuses on accuracy rather than length to stand a chance of playing to your handicap. There are many great holes to enjoy at El Paraiso but the par-5 6th is considered to be its signature. Measuring just shy of 500 yards from the white tees, the hole dog legs from right to left with a bunker in play on the right for anyone bailing out off the tee. As you turn the corner, the hole's danger becomes apparent with numerous bunkers ready to catch your second shot if laying up and a large lake to the right for anyone attempting the green. The putting surface is guarded by a further two bunkers and a large slope ready to snare any mishit putt. After your round, regardless of how you've played, a warm welcome awaits in the lovely clubhouse. As one of the few members clubs in the Costa del Sol, this is a great place to take in a bit of the history of the club as well as enjoy a cold drink while watching the golfers take on the course around you. One of the highlights of this course is the incredible use of the natural terrain that was on offer during the building of the course. Exposed natural stone, large trees, lakes and historic walls all add to the unique character of the round. The 5th hole at Pestana Gramacho in the Western Algarve is considered by many to be a hidden gem, and is the perfect showcase for Pestana’s undulating fairways and slick greens. A dramatic driving hole, featuring an uphill fairway and a significant dogleg to the right. Vale da Pinta This course hosted European Seniors Tour Qualifying eight times and is a great golfing challenge for players of all levels. The course is highly playable and intelligent design by Ronald Fream has resulted in a superb experience. Strategic bunkering has been deployed perfectly to protect the course and water hazards add another element of danger for your scorecard. The terrain is an absolute joy on the eye and includes some wonderful trees, including an olive tree that is over 1200 years old! The 13th hole is a real stand-out and a potential card-wrecker. A tight tee-shot requiring the avoidance of a large water hazard and many bunkers leaves a short approach to a very well-protected green. Greenside bunkers await errant wedges. The course places great importance on accurate shot making- tight fairways, doglegs, and many well-placed hazards leave little margin for error. Perhaps the finest example of this can be found on the par 5 4th hole, measuring at 560 yards. The hole certainly provides a stern test of the driver, with a long and accurate drive towards a marker post, made tougher by the out of bounds on the left, and rough on the right. Further caution is required on the approach, with an ever-narrowing fairway and a well-protected, undulating green making for a tough par. Pestana Golf Academy and Driving Range As you would expect from a championship venue, the practice facilities are truly world-class. If you would like to get some tuition in whilst you are on holiday, the PGA professionals at the resort are here for you. Group clinics are also available for those who just want a quick tweak rather than a full analysis of their swing. The driving range is equipped with a shelter to shade you from the sun and cool you down as you hit balls in the sun. You can loosen off with a bucket of balls before making your way to the first tee or you can spend a few hours working on your swing. Unusually, there are no developments around the course, so you can fully enjoy the views of the ocean and volcanoes at almost every hole. The greens and fairways are surrounded by local plants and trees, such as the beautiful Canary Island Date palm, which lends this all-year course a tropical air. It is a par-72 course which stretches to around 6,700 yards at its longest, which, while not overly long by modern standards, features numerous doglegs which brings all of the golfer's clubs into play. The "picon" (volcanic sand) and the wind add an extra challenge to the pleasure of playing each hole. The course also benefits from an excellent clubhouse with a pro-shop, restaurant and coffee bar. A full range of equipment is available for hire from half and full sets of clubs through to golf buggies. Lanzarote Golf The 6,750-yard, par-72 course is situated in the tourist centre of Puerto del Carmen, just five minutes from the best hotels and beaches of the island, and 10 minutes from the airport. Relatively little land was moved in the course of the construction, and it shows. The holes have a beautifully natural feel, and while the course is relatively tree-less, it has an integrity to its design that results in you having to think your way around this course rather than overpower it. It is an undulating layout, with hazards being mostly picon (gravel) and walls. There are lots of cacti and the bunkers are excellent and it's certainly a tough test on a windy day. Before going out to enjoy a round, you might borrow a club from the clubhouse to play from the picon otherwise you could ruin your clubs. Alternatively, arrange with your playing partners for free drops! Lanzarote Golf continues to evolve and now has all necessary services - clubhouse with changing rooms, reception, shop, club room, bathrooms and cafeteria. The club also offers driving range, short game area, putting green, club rental, buggies and trolleys for hire. And from the spacious terraces of the clubhouse you can enjoy watching the golfers at the 1st and 10th tees and the 9th and 18th greens. North Course €9 million was invested on the North Course in 2014, implementing new innovative technology to ensure that the course was more environmentally friendly and even more aesthetically pleasing. Golfers of all abilities will not only be able to enjoy the challenge of the course but enjoy the visual aspects that the North Course is known for, with wonderful trees, white sanded bunkers and beautiful water hazards featuring throughout. Totalling at 6,529 yards from the Yellows, it is not a particularly long course. Despite this, in terms of quality, you are spoilt for choice. It was named ‘The Best New Golf Course in Europe’ at the World Golf Awards in 2014, and it is evident why. Laranjal Course The land that this course is built on used to be an orange grove and the transformation is nothing short of staggering. Sitting just 2km from the resort in the Ludo Valley, pine and orange trees play a role in the beauty of this course. Voted the best course in Portugal in 2011 this is a challenging track with well-defended greens. The set-up of this course is unique with five par-5s, eight par-4s and five par-3s. Given that this is a standalone course away from the main resort, the Laranjal has its own clubhouse and practice facilities. These amenities are exactly what you would expect from Quinta do Lago and are of the highest quality. The 11th hole on the course is probably the signature hole, although choosing a highlight is difficult here. A 180 yard par-3 with water to the right of the hole as well as the famous ‘beach bunker’ making that tee shot a little tenser. The green is lightning fast and leaving the ball below the hole is a must to give yourself a chance at a single putt.
